Murdo

Dismissed from his job as a bank clerk, Murdo tries to write, but cannot get beyond the first sentence: ’There was a clerk once and he was working in a bank...’  He sets out to convert all he meets to his extraordinary philosophy and unique vision of the world. As part of his antics he creates the even more extraordinary figure of Sam Spaid of Portree - the religious private detective.

What makes Murdo so funny and gives these stories such a sharp edge is that there is both darkness and an outrageous logic behind even his most erratic utterances. In a world of conformity Murdo dares to be different, and while laughing, one cannot help but admire him.
